Starting college means starting to make adult decisions, and for freshman Allie Smith, that decision was birth control. But with a regular time of 6:00 PM, Smith has done the unforgivable and taken her birth control at 6:02 PM. As per the usual punishment of failing to comply with the mechanisms of biology, the young student must now prepare for motherhood.
“I never planned on becoming pregnant while in school. I haven’t even had sex yet, but when you do something as irresponsible as I have you have to pay the price.” Smith shares.
Smith has already decided to keep the baby.
“Selena Gomez had a teen mom. What if my kid’s the next Selena Gomez and I give her up? Wow I’d look stupid.” Smith said.
Smith has revealed she has not gone to the doctor to confirm the pregnancy yet and has not taken a pregnancy test. “I’m eighteen, I think I know how birth control works!” She exclaimed.
Smith shared her excitement about her pregnancy. “I wasn’t a fan of teen mom, but I think I’m just a little more mature than those girls. They aren’t college students like me, I’m hoping to get a lifetime movie, because I’m basically another virgin Mary.”
Though Smith has come to terms and looks forward to motherhood, she understands how hard it will be to live as both a single mother and a full-time student. Not paying her own tuition and receiving full financial support for the baby from her parents is truly a weight off her shoulders.
From this process, Smith shares that she has grown and has become a real adult. “I hope to be a reminder for girls to always remember their birth control time and to be an inspiration to all struggling single mothers," she said.
Smith is now working on her memoir “6:02: What Minutes Mean To Me,” and hopes to finish it over winter break.
