The Barnacle's Beginnings

The Quinnipiac Barnacle was founded in 1964 by a young John Lahey as a freshman attending the University of Miami. On a dark and stormy night, John had a feverish dream wherein an angelic barnacle appeared before him, attached to a sea rock of knowledge.

“John,” said the barnacle, “you are destined for greatness. Become president of Quinnipiac University, teach the wisdom of the ages, give yourself a ridiculously high pay check, and start a newspaper. Become the truth that people need. Also, look out for communism.”

All of this he did. He began writing articles for The Barnacle immediately, even though he had no idea what a “Quinnipiac” was or where it was located. In 1987 he became president of the little known Quinnipiac College, teaching students the wisdom they needed via fax from his anti-Soviet bunker. He eventually turned The Barnacle over to the students to be his premier student-run organization on campus, and with that turned Quinnipiac College into Quinnipiac University, fulfilling his destiny and receiving the Gaelic Sword of Wonder.

This Barnacle is for comedic purposes only. Actual names and likenesses used in the Barnacle are used in a parodic context, and are not a reflection of any actual person.
