On the recent 12th Annual Quinnipiac Awards show, Q30, the university’s student-run television station, won the award for “Best Student-Run Television Station at Quinnipiac” for the 12thconsecutive year.
Hosted by Neil Patrick Harris’ cousin, John Scott Von Jorgenson, the awards show, incidentally broadcast on Q30, also gave awards for “Best Radio Station at Quinnipiac” and “Best Newspaper at Quinnipiac.” These awards were given to WQAQ 98.1 and The Quad News, respectively.
“I think what set us apart from the other Quinnipiac television stations was the fact that we actually exist and broadcast,” said Jon Alba, general manager of Q30. “That, or the blurry feed that we broadcast to all school television. Or maybe even the fact that we’re not actually on channel 30, but somewhere around there. There are a lot of things that set us apart from the competition!”
The award is just the latest in a string of good news for Q30. “Our last newscast got the highest ratings we’ve ever seen,” said Alba. “We broadcast a medical marijuana in Connecticut story, so we really nailed our ‘stoner looking for cartoons’ demographic that is so highly coveted by our advertisers.”
While these stoners are the main demographic for Q30, they are not the only ones tuning in to Quinnipiac-produced television, according to Alba. “You name it, they watch it. Students who make the show, parents of students who make the show, Daniel Brown. They’re all watching, all the time.”
Tune in to channel 30-something to watch blurry reruns of all your favorite Q30 shows like “Late Night with Joe Kohle” and…the other ones!
