Following their decision to regulate how the Quinnipiac Film Society spends the money that they’ve already received from the school, the Student Government Association will now dictate how all clubs use their “funded” money.
The Quinnipiac Film Society, also known as QFS, intended to use a portion of their budget for another event to help fund a trip to the Sundance Film Festival, but their appeal was denied, as it goes against the Student Government Association policy.
“Even though I am a business major and have yet to attend a QFS meeting, I am keenly aware of how a group of filmmakers should be spending money on their organization,” said Vice President for Finance Matt Powers. “Using that money to attend one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world just wouldn’t be beneficial to students trying to break into the film industry.”
With the success of this financial takeover, the Student Government Association has decided that they should become the treasurer for all of the clubs at Quinnipiac. “Let’s face it: I know the best way for all of these clubs to spend money,” said Powers. “For SPB, we’re spending most of the money on the spring concert. I can’t announce who we got, but let’s just say it rhymes with Sanson. That’s right, we got fucking Hanson.”
This increase of power has not gone over well with some of the club presidents on campus. Eric Frick, the president of QU Chess, is unhappy about where some of his funds have been diverted. “Yeah, they took our money for new chess boards and moved it into SPB’s account. They said it was because Hanson needed chocolate strawberries? I didn’t really understand, but now we’re playing chess on a checkers board.”
We here at The Barnacle support any financial decisions made by The Student Government Association, as long as they choose not to declare us bankrupt. Please.
